Brighton cyclist fined £700 for going through a red light.

£700 fine for cyclist

Richard Hodgson, 53, was found guilty of ignoring a red traffic light, cycling without lights, cycling on the pavement and failing to stop for police.

Brighton magistrates fined him £700 and ordered him to pay £215 in costs.

The Argus article on the web is much shorter than the one published where a Bricycles spokesperson described the fine as 'harsh'!

BBC News - Boy's cycling design chosen for Olympic 50p coin: "A design by a West Yorkshire teenager has been chosen from more than 3,000 entries to become a new 50p coin inspired by the Olympic Games.
Theo Crutchley-Mack, 16, from Halifax, said it was 'absolutely amazing' that his picture of a cyclist in a velodrome was chosen by the Royal Mint."

Cyclists will be given green light to ignore one-way signs - Times Online: "The Department for Transport is authorising a trial in the Royal Borough of Kensington & Chelsea, Mr Cameron’s home authority in West London, in which a small plate saying “Except cyclists” will be attached to poles carrying no-entry signs.

If the trial is successful, the department intends to extend the policy to the rest of Britain and permit thousands of one-way streets to become two-way for bikes."
