Cycling fury at beheading 'joke'

BBC NEWS | Wales | North East Wales | Cycling fury at beheading joke:
In his column on 27 December, Matthew Parris wrote: "A festive custom we could do worse than foster would be stringing piano wire across country lanes to decapitate cyclists".

Under the headline "What's smug and deserves to be decapitated?" he wrote of cyclists' "brutish disregard for all other road users".

He also said that "the lynching of a cyclist by a mob of mothers with pushchairs would be a joy to witness".

Thanks for bringing this to my attention - What irritates me about Parris's attitude is that he thought it would be funny to target cyclists as a group who deserve to be attacked, justified perhaps by the fact that other road users find us irritating, which to some drivers I imagine we are, but as a driver myself of many years and a commuting and recreational cyclist I would say the problem is not the cyclist but these drivers' attitudes. I get frequent beeps and gestures from passing drivers for riding my ROAD bike on a road where there is also a cycle PATH, and well, don't get me started. Does anyone know of a forum thread on this subject where I could have a good rant and read some other rants?
